Artspace, a 55-unit live/work housing space for artists, broke ground on Tuesday, October 18 at the former Elgin Community College Fountain Square Campus. This $14.5 million project is meant to attract artists to affordable housing in downtown Elgin, while at the same time revitalizing downtown and establishing Elgin as an arts community. The project is developed by Artspace Projects, Inc., a nonprofit developer of arts facilities.
Artspace is made possible by federal tax credits and state affordable housing tax credits from the Illinois Housing Development Authority. In addition, our own Mark Seigle raised $500,000 in the private sector for the project. Read more about this exciting Elgin project in the Courier News.
