We recently completed an incredible large-scale remodel in McHenry, Illinois. The owner wanted to expand the kitchen, relocate the laundry out of the mudroom, and close off a bathroom’s second entry. Because they wanted a larger kitchen, we eliminated a bedroom and hallway. We used that space, in the back of the house, for a new, expansive kitchen. Their old kitchen was transformed into an eat-in breakfast area. We then converted the walk-in closet to a laundry room, so they could continue to have a first floor laundry. We also closed off the extra bathroom entrance and made it into a built-in coffee station.
The homeowners love to casually entertain, but found themselves outside on a deck when people were over, as they didn’t have an area big enough in their kitchen for everyone to comfortably fit. By eliminating the back bedroom, they more than doubled their kitchen space and were able to add a huge island for everyone to gather around.
