We recently completed a gorgeous kitchen remodel in Westchester. The homeowners were looking to update their kitchen to give it a more modern flair, gain more storage, and expand their casual living and entertaining space so their entire family could be together during the holiday season.
So we eliminated the formal dining room by removing the wall that divided the space—this changemore than doubles their storage capacity and allows them all to be together when they entertain.
We not only updated the look on the outside of the cabinets but also added all of the modern accessories inside the cabinets:
Roll-trays in the pantry and all of the base cabinets to make it easier to access everything
A waste/recycle cabinet
A tray base cabinet
Two large drawer banks
The homeowner did all of the carpentry work himself. He is a retired firefighter—he served Chicago for 32 years and has been doing contractor and carpentry work for over 50 years. Needless to say, the install was truly a labor of love.
As an extra bonus, with the extended island, the chairs at the end are permanently reserved for the Mrs. of the house and the grandson as they quickly learned that they can watch the TV hung on the wall behind the island by looking at the reflection in the mirrored glass doors at the buffet. Talk about an unexpected proper placement!
