Mary has been an Itinerant Sales and Design Consultant in the Chicago showroom at Seigles since July 2013. We sat down with her to get to know more about what makes her tick. Read on to find out about Mary’s favorite project, her travels, and even a delicious meal she likes to cook.
What is your favorite thing about working at Seigles?
The people—everyone that works for Seigle’s is genuinely nice and caring. Also Seigle’s represents various manufacturers so we can provide new cabinets for every budget.
What is your favorite project you’ve worked on and why?
Believe it or not, I have liked all my projects, but I just finished a gut rehab for a friend who has been deployed to Kuwait. It’s a modest kitchen, and walls were removed. She will be so happy to see how it has opened up the entire condo.
What is your favorite option in today’s kitchens?
Corner cabinets—diagonal and square corners, lazy Susans. I hate dead corners when the space could be used for storage. I also like full extension soft closing drawers. Now you can get to the back of any size drawer.
Over your time in the business, what’s the worst design trend you’ve encountered?
I’m not a big fan of brightly colored cabinets, such as turquoise or purple.
If we came to your house for dinner, what would you prepare for us?
Rolled pork roast stuffed with pistachio herb butter, spinach, and fontina cheese with roasted Brussels sprouts. And I’d finish with homemade cheesecake.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Shoes and purses.
What is the most thrilling thing you’ve ever done?
Two week vacation visiting Italy—Venice, Florence, Rome, Capri. It was amazing.
What is your favorite room in your house?
My open kitchen living room.
If you had a 25 hour day while everyone else has only 24, what would you do with your extra time?
Exercise—I never seem to have the time.
What is the top item on your bucket list?
Visit France—Paris, in particular, and a few of the vineyards throughout the Champagne region.
