Trend Alert: Green Is the New Neutral

People have become progressively bolder through the years, moving neutral base colors from beige to gray to, more recently, blue—finally allowing color to drive a palate as a beautiful neutral option. And this year, the trend is shifting even further along the color wheel, with green stepping in as the latest beautiful neutral option, trending in 2021.

PureWow focused on green recently in an article enthusiastically titled, “This is the Hottest Color to Paint Your Kitchen Right Now.” In the article, Stephanie Pierce, director of design at Masterbrand Cabinets (which are responsible for the incredible brands Diamond, Decora, Aristokraft, and Omega, all offered at Seigle’s), points out the new popularity of the color, and that it is speaking to more and more people. “Green is quickly gaining color confidence with homeowners who are realizing how well this color compliments others and changes easily with the seasons just like in nature,” says Stephanie Pierce, the director of design and trends at MasterBrand Cabinets.

Green is being used in many shades, depending on homeowner preference. Pierce loves a dark green as a base color to build a kitchen around. From the PureWow article, Pierce says “Foxhall Green is a bold and sophisticated evergreen hue that looks beautiful on cabinets or as an accent on a kitchen island.”

Better Homes and Gardens recently declared Sage to be this year’s most popular shade of green, highlighting its ability to sooth and create a “serene, restful home.” In the article, Pierce is again interviewed and suggests sage can be paired with other colors to direct the mood even further: “The color lends a sophisticated air when combined with bright whites and gold finishes, she says, while darker accents will enhance its ability to create cozy, moody spaces.”

The color can be used to offer a peaceful atmosphere to both the kitchen and bathroom—where Pierce says it’s a great option as it is reminiscent of a spa.
