Trending: Move Over White! Color Livens and Warms Up Kitchen Remodels

In recent years, we’ve seen our customers (and homeowners and designers around the country!) lean heavy into a clean, stark white look. When you are remodeling your kitchen, you want everything to feel shiny and new! You also want timeless design, and nothing feels more universal now than white. But over the past year or so, a change seems to be in the works. Color is making a comeback!

The most popular color we have seen has been shades of blue. In fact, it’s becoming more and more clear that blue is the new neutral. Pantone declared “Classic Blue” to be the color of the year for 2020, a shade they describe as one that instills a sense of  “calm, confidence, and connection.” And when we look at some of our recent kitchen remodels that use blue, we couldn’t agree more!

And Pantone is not alone in looking to blue tones to warm up our lives. Sherwin Williams chose “Naval” as its 2020 color of the year. The color is described as a “rich navy that creates a calm and grounding environment infused with quiet confidence.”

One thing to notice is that, while the color can certainly be boldly used throughout a kitchen or bathroom remodel, it can also just add warmth on an island, or only on lower cabinets or certain pieces.

Cabinet brands are making it easier and easier to incorporate excellent choices that create classic cabinets with a splash of color. In fact, Aristocraft recently released released new color choices for its Purestyle line, which offers a revolutionary material that offers the durability of laminate with the beauty of paint. One of the color choices includes Admiral, a deep rich navy color.

And you can even create a color of your choice, with some cabinet brands able to create custom colors!

And in the future, as remodelers make bold choices that match up with their taste and style, maybe color won’t be limited to only shades of blue! A recent Chicago Tribune article explored the “All white kitchen rebellion,” suggesting we were heading into the days of yore, with possible comebacks of pink, mauve, greens, and buttercup—in backsplashes, countertops, cabinetry, and even appliances! What color calls your name?

Whatever colors you choose, it’s more important than ever that you love the home you live in. Considering a remodel so you can make your kitchen, bathroom, or other space yours? Make a virtual appointment with a Seigle’s designer today to get started on your project!
