When you are considering remodeling your kitchen, you likely have a style in mind—even if you don’t know what the style is called. Kitchens can range from traditional to industrial to farmhouse to contemporary—and some designers parse even closer and differentiate between rustic farmhouse and modern. Whatever you call it, your kitchen will end up with a style, and the cabinetry, countertop material, colors, and finishes all contribute. A well-designed kitchen considers how all of these elements work together—the better they work into a coordinated style, the more likely your new kitchen is to “wow.”
Today, we will take a look at what makes a kitchen “Modern Farmhouse.”
A modern farmhouse kitchen mixes modern features with rustic elements, which offer warmth to the look—think a white or neutral focus with wood and industrial accents. This style features white wood cabinets and neutral tones—you’ll almost always see a focus on white, black, and wood throughout the kitchen. An open feel is achieved with using less upper cabinetry, and instead including open shelving in places. You won’t see anything ornate—simple is the word, so smooth quartz countertops are key.
If you really want to lock in the look, consider an apron front or farmhouse sink. When choosing hardware, go dark. For decor and finishes, think neatly potted plants, cookie jars, heirloom dishes, and more.
