What’s Your Style? A Close Look at Traditional Kitchens

When you are considering remodeling your kitchen, you likely have a style in mind—even if you don’t know what the style is called. Kitchens can range from traditional to industrial to farmhouse to contemporary—and there is even a difference between rustic farmhouse and modern farmhouse. Whatever you call it, your kitchen will end up with a style, and the cabinetry, countertop material, colors, and finishes all contribute. A well-designed kitchen considers how all of these elements work together—the better they work into a coordinated style, the more likely your new kitchen is to “wow.”

Today, we will take a look at what makes a kitchen “Traditional.”

What is traditional style?

Traditional kitchens are warm and classic, with ornamental touches in a style that is meant to last. Cabinetry is often topped with crown molding, and instead of a shaker style, panels and glass front doors are featured. The decorative embellishments give the kitchen a layered look. Warmth is added with neutral colors like creams and grays, often with antique or glazed finishes.

What will you see in traditional kitchens?

  • Decorative elements, like crown molding, wainscoting, and raised-panel cabinetry
  • Warm neutral colors, like creams, whites, and grays
  • Glass doors on cabinetry

What words describe a traditional kitchen?

  • Embellished
  • Layered
  • Classic

What goes with the style?

Often, traditional kitchens feature a more simple backsplash, since the rest of the kitchen features adornments. Lighting is often a little more ornate, and both lighting and faucets often have interesting shape and movement. Granite and Quartz countertops complete the rich look.
